CASE STUDY
FOOD TRUCK APP
My Favorite Food Truck App is specialized in italian streetfood. It's located in in different places all over italy and it strives to deliver fast healthy food. The project had a duration of three months : from feburary to may 2023
The Problem
Busy Workers with lack of time during lunch.
The Goal
Design an app that help people to place order and submit it online without waiting too long in the line.
Responsabilities and role:
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs. Role: UX designer designing an app for My Favorite Food Truck from conception to delivery.
User Research Summury
I conducted unmoderated interviews remotely in italy to people who eats at least once a week in food truck. I created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was working adults who are busy and need to save time to order their meal. I found out that the app really helps people to save time and not wait too long in the line.
Pain Points
1) TIME: Busy works don't want to spend too much time waiting in the line to place an order.
2) PLACE ORDER: Users would like to place order days/ hours in advance
3) LOYALTY PROGRAMS: Users would like to place order days/ hours in advance
Personas were derived from the research, which helped empathize with their need for quick and easy information relevant to their lives, in addition to being able to share and create immersive interactions.

Mapping George's user journey revealed how helpful it would be for users to have access to My Favorite Food Truck app.

Paper Wireframes
Taking the time to draft iterations of each screen of the app on paper ensured that the elements that made it to digital wireframes would be well-suited to address user pain points.

Digital Wireframes
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research.

Low fidelity prototype
I created a low fidelity prototype to place an order and test the user flow.

Usability Study fidings
I conducted two rounds of usability studies. Findings from the first study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.
Round 1 findings:
1) Ephasize specifc actions on homepage
2) Allow to order days in advance
3) A more intuitive pick up label
Round 2 findings:
1) Confirmation order page
2) Engage loyalty points
Mockups
After the usability study i added a call to action to start place order when landing on the homepage.

We added interractive date and time picker to place order days in advance

High Fidelity Prototype
The final high-fidelity prototype presented cleaner user flows to place order in advance and checkout. View the High-fidelity prototype HERE

I learned that make an app is a long process that needs to be tested and shared with others of the team to optimize it. Team work is crucial!
The next steps after this experience is to conduct another round of usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed. And conduct more user research to determine any new areas of need.
